Market- An American RestaurantMarket- An American Restaurant

Principals

Located on 1347 Main Street in the heart of charming St. Helena, Market brings a long overlooked dining option to the Napa Valley. With It's spectacular setting, skillfully executed "American Classics", exciting wine list, warm, efficient service, and extremely reasonable prices, Market raises the bar for the fine art of dining casually.

As the name suggests, our menu takes its cues from seasonal ingredients and what looks good to Chef Keane at the local markets. "It's a simple neighborhood restaurant. We are serving food that is fresh and carefully crafted, nothing overwrought. We want Market to be a home away from home for the community."

Market is a local gathering spot without pretense. Dress casually. Bring friends and a healthy appetite. You won't be disappointed. We'll see you soon!

HISTORY OF THE MARKET BUILDING
The building was erected in 1890, as a retail store but soon replaced by a drug store, which it remained for the next 100 years. In 1995, the space became Gayle’s, an ice cream and candy store. The plaster from the walls was stripped, revealing the beautiful coursed native fieldstone walls that had been covered. In 2001, the short-lived Beau-Vine Restaurant came & went. The landlords, part of the Lewelling, Taplin & Wight Families that have lived in the valley since the 1800’s, accepted a business proposal from Douglas Keane & Nick Peyton, and Market was born on February 26, 2003

THE BACK BAR
The top of the back bar is part of an original Brunswick Bar manufactured around the late 1800’s.  It purportedly came from the Grand Ballroom of The Palace Hotel in San Francisco, where it was one section of a ninety foot bar, running the full length of the ballroom. Removed from the hotel during Prohibition it was for some time in a San Jose saloon. It was acquired on an Ebay auction for this space from storage in a Santa Rosa garage.
